HYDERABAD: For the residents of Old Malakpet localities, water supply has become an issue that needs immediate attention. For, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board supplies water only in the night and that too for 15 minutes.
As a result, the residents stay awake the whole night once in four days waiting for water to flow through the taps, as water is supplied any time between 10 pm and 6 am.
1x1 polls

K Yadgiri, a mechanic who lives in Shankarnagar of Old Malakpet, said the quantity of water supplied is small. About 18 bastis of Old Malakpet are facing the problem of water scarcity. Overflowing drains and damaged roads plague these localities.
Wahadnagar, New Wahadnagar, Patelnagar, Baragally, Papiah Basti and H B Colony are the areas where water problem is intense.
Mohammed Farooq Ali Khan, a civil contractor who stays in Wahadnagar, told The Times of India there were six uncovered manholes which pose a threat to walkers and motorists. Lack of proper streetlights has only made the problem worse.
Rukum Bai, a resident of the Housing Board Colony, complained about open drains and damaged pipelines. The damaged pipelines lead to flooding of sewage in the area, especially once it rains, Rukum Bai said.

Roads in Patelnagar have not being laid, though the plan has been sanctioned more than a year ago, Anand, a resident, said.
Mohammad Kazim Ali, a central government employee, has no drinking water connection in his house. His daughters carry water all the way from a borewell. “I have applied for the water connection seven months ago and have several times reminded the water works officials, but till now there is no response,’’ he said.
Moin Khan, who stays in Afzalnagar, an area beside Wahadnagar, said there was a heap of garbage right in front of his house that was causing a stench.
The MCH has refused to attend to any of our complains in spite of the officials being petitioned several times, he added.
The other areas of Moosarambagh including Prasanthnagar, Teegalguda Sripuram Colony and the surrounding areas are infested with mosquitoes.
